Responsibilities: Check guests in at the door; greet guests, give out welcome cards

10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon
Panel moderated by Ray Suarez from the NewsHour and will be live-streamed by the NewsHour
Guests - Approximately 200 - Mayors, other officials and corporate representatives
Responsibilities: Check guests in at the door, direct guests to theatre
Availability for 4-6 college students to fill these volunteer postions from 9:00 AM until noon.
*We may have some opportunity for students to be in the audience for this.

Mayors will use this room to meet/have discussions, work. Responsibilities include manning the desk and manage the office.

About the National Conference of Democratic Mayors (NCDM)
NCDM is an exciting organization which represents a strategic network of Democratic Mayors across the country - CEOs of cities from Los Angeles to Baltimore and Seattle to Orlando. NCDM represents over 500 Democratic Mayors in cities with populations of 30,000 or more. Thirty nine capital cities have Democratic Mayors and 37 of the 50 largest cities are represented by Democratic Mayors.
NCDM's President is Mayor R.T. Rybak of Minneapolis, who also serves as a Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Mayors have a prominent role in this Convention - with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles serving as Chair, Mayor Anthony Foxx serving as Host and Mayor Julian Castro of San Antonio giving the Opening Speech at the Convention. In addition, Mayors sepaking at the Convention include: Cory Booker of Newark, New Jersey; Mayor Michael Nutter of Philadelphia as well as Mayors Villaraigosa, and Rybak.

Volunteers are needed to assist with the recyling and composting effort and the Democratic National Convention September 3rd-6th. Volunteers must register to participate. Once you have reached the registration page, enter the password: 2012. All volunteers must be able to work at least two shifts.
One of the Green Team Charlotte's most important and eciting sustainability goals is to reduce waste by diverting traditional landfill waste from the convention venues into recycling and composting sites. Green Team volunteers are key to the success of this effort.
National Journal Group, publishers of The Atlantic, is seeking students to volunteer as Brand Ambassadors during the DNC and attend related events. Volunteers would help with product distribution, event promotion and marketing, and occasional event staffing. Volunteers are to arrive a 20 minutes before their scheduled start time at the National Journal headquarters in the McColl Center at 721 N Tryon St, Charlotte. Each shifty that volunteers work allows them access to attend one of the National Journal events.
National Journal is publishing, once again, Convention Daily, the campus newspaper of the conventions since 1984, and wil be among the largest media presences on the ground. This is a great chance for students to be involved.

ONE is seeking student volunteers to maintain a presence for the organization, particularly during the morning news programs that will be broadcasting from the convention. Volunteers will receive a ONE tshirt.

Microsoft is looking for several student volunteers. The students would be responsible for picking up credentials and taking them to some of the top people in Microsoft’s and their government affairs team. If they get extra credentials or tickets to events they would take the students with them. They would prefer to have students who have cars. They are looking for five students to volunteer on the Sunday before the convention (Sept 2) and then 1-3 students to assist each night (Sept. 3-6), generally from 3:00 PM to midnight. We are hosting several events throughout the week, but our Monday night event at Amos Southend will certainly be the busiest. The Roots will be performing and Allen Stone will be the opening act! All volunteers will be fed, provided StartUp-RockOn T- Shirts and most importantly, will have free access to this exciting concert. All merchandise that will be sold during the 2012 Democratic National Convention needs to be documented as soon as possible. To do this, we will need the help of volunteers to put barcode stickers on each piece of merchandise so that it can be scanned upon purchase. Volunteers will also help to sort this merchandise.
What: Charlotte in 2012 Merchandise Coding
When: Thursday, August 9 – Monday, August 20. Shift schedules will be as follows:

· High school students are permitted to assist with this project!
· This job is minimally strenuous and will be performed seated or standing in an air-conditioned environment.
· Some volunteers may be required to lift boxes of approximately 25 lbs.
